AAT – Q2022 LAUNCHED & READY FOR YOU TO BEGIN YOUR STUDY
- The new and much anticipated AAT Q2022 syllabus has arrived. You can begin your Q2022 study with us from the 1st August 2022.
- You can register for student membership with AAT from the 1
st September 2022 and book your first Q2022 exam from the 1st of September 2022 or whenever you are ready thereafter. - Overall, you will notice little difference from the current AQ2016 syllabus to Q2022. The main changes are 2 x units merging at both level 3 and level 4 resulting in one less exam at each level. Plus the computerised accounts module has been removed from level 2 so again one less exam. It is important to note that whilst there are less exams, the learning content remains the same between AQ2016 & Q2022 meaning the merged modules are larger units. You should consider this when planning your studies as the new units will take longer to complete.

AQ2016 STUDY IS STILL AVAILABLE
- You can enrol on to a full AQ2016 level up and until 31st August 2022. To enrol, follow the same process as enrolling on the above Q2022 courses, the price is the same. Once your enrolment completes, immediately email sales@goldedgetraining.co.uk saying you wish to study using AQ2016 syllabus and resources. If you choose this option, it is paramount that you register with AAT as an AQ2016 student member before the 31st August. There is no leeway on this first registration date. It is fully your responsibility to both notify our sales regarding AQ2016 immediately after enrolment and register with AAT by the due date. Once we have dispatched books etc. we cannot transfer you to a different syllabus.
COMPLETING OUTSTANDING AQ2016 UNITS
- We will be offering enrolment for individual AQ2016 unit completion up and until August 2023. Regardless of level, each unit will be supplied as the Optimum 2 learning style at a cost of £175 per unit. To enrol, please contact iag@goldedgetraining.co.uk tell us the unit/s you wish to enrol on to and your full contact details. You will then be sent an online invoice that you can pay by debit or credit in the normal way. We should have you study within in 3-4 days.
I AM PART WAY THROUGH AQ2016 SHOULD I TRANSFER TO Q2022?
- The simple answer is NO not at this point. Regardless of what friends or anyone else is saying to you, it is not necessary to transfer at this stage. It is not free to transfer, it is costly. Receiving advice to transfer now makes life easy for the training provider and AAT, but makes no difference to you.
- You have until the 30th September 2023 to complete under AQ2016 which is ample time at just a few hours of study a week. Complete what you can under AQ2016, but make sure you firstly complete the units that are transferable, which is most. Go on to the AAT website and search transitional arrangements or click on the following link https://www.aat.org.uk/system/files/assets/AATAQ2016-Q2022-transitional-arrangements.pdf
- If you get to August 2023 and know you won’t complete, transfer then. You will still have to pay the AAT transfer fees, but you will be purchasing only 1 or 2 new units.

CHOOSING YOUR COURSE ENTRY LEVEL

Starting at the Level 2
- Most students will start at the level 2. The level 1 is below the normal entry level. The level 1 content is repeated in full and in a lot more depth at level 2.
- We recommend you begin at the level 2. This level assumes you have no prior accounting knowledge and will start at the very beginning building
your knowledge from that point forward. - If you have under 2 years experience using an accounting software package, we recommend you begin with Foundation. Accounting software knowledge
whilst extremely useful, does not teach you accountancy or double entry bookkeeping. - Do you have extensive experience using accounting computerised packages, but lack double entry knowledge? You can complete the Bookkeeping at level 2 to gain the double entry knowledge and then progress on to the Accounting pathway for level 3 and level 4.
Starting at the Level 3
To start at the Advanced level you will need to already have achieved one of the following:
- A pass at the AAT Foundation level.
- A pass in an equivalent level 2 manual accounting qualification for example Institute of Certified Bookkeepers or similar.
- A level in accounts.
- Have accounting experience in excess of 2 years with a good understanding of manual double entry bookkeeping.
Starting at the Level 4
To start at the Professional Level you will need to already have achieved one of the following:
- A pass at the Advanced Diploma in Accounting level 3 or equivalent.
- A full accountancy or finance degree.
- If your degree is in banking or financial services, please speak to Christine on 02394 00 3559. It is unlikely that the accountancy covered will be sufficient to start at level 4. It may be possible to start at level 3. All finance degrees are discussed and assessed on an individual basis.
- You have 10 or more years accountancy experience at a middle to senior level. Experience must be diverse and varied
WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER PLANS?
THE AAT ACCOUNTING OR BOOKKEEPING PATHWAY?
Avoid the myths when making your decision. Bookkeeping isn’t easier than accounting. The units studied in bookkeeping are also studied as part of the accounting. The learning content of these units is identical as is the exams.
Bookkeeping study covers financial accounting only to level 3, which is the scope and depth of knowledge required by a bookkeeper.
Accounting study covers both financial and cost accounting to level 4. Someone studying accounting can decide to become a bookkeeper or go further to a senior management role.

Accounting – What Can an AAT Accountant do?
Many financial directors and managers of accountancy departments are AAT Accountants. Becoming an AAT Accountant will open every accountancy career opportunity. Other well paid accountancy roles open to AAT studiers and AAT Accountant are senior accounts assistant, assistant accountant, credit controller, banking or specialist in accountancy software development.

The practices can be own client driven or a mix of own clients and freelance work for larger accountancy practices. As a self employed bookkeeper, you are in control. If you want to be employed? Professional Bookkeepers are required by employers for accounting roles such as sales ledger or purchase ledger plus many more associated roles.
